The Motorcycle Council of NSW is again running the ‘Jo/Joe Rider’ motorcycle awareness campaign as part of our Motorcycle Awareness Month this year in October.

Local volunteer motorcycle riders are currently being sought to be ‘Jo/Joe Rider’ for each day of the week across the Sydney Metropolitan area.

The campaign will run for one week  Monday 10 October 2022 to Friday 14 October 2022 during Motorcycle Awareness Month.

What is Jo / Joe Rider?

Jo/Joe Rider aims to reduce the occurrence of “Sorry Mate I Didn’t See You” (SMIDSY) crashes, and entails promoting a week where drivers are encouraged to spot ‘Jo/Joe Rider’ and enter a competition.  The campaign will be promoted in radio ads during the morning and evening peak hours. The goal of the campaign is to encourage road users to look out for and notice motorcycle riders – particularly in urban areas.

Become a Jo / Joe Rider

If you, or your friends, would like to volunteer as ‘Jo/Joe’ for the week (or less if that’s all you can manage) – we’d like to hear from you.

Hi Vis vests featuring ‘Jo/Joe Rider’ on the back will be provided to all of our ‘Jo/Joe’s’ to wear whilst volunteering.

You’ll also be required to email us each day on where and when you rode so can verify competition entries.

Interested?

Those who are interested can register by emailing enquiries@mccofnsw.org.au or ringing 1300 679 622 (1300 NSW MCC) with some basic details:-

  • which days and times you’ll be able to be Jo/Joe Rider
  • which suburbs of Sydney you’ll be riding in
  • if you’ll be doing this as part of your ride to work

We look forward to you being a part of this important road safety campaign.

For further information or any questions please contact the Secretary at enquiries@mccofnsw.org.au or 1300 679 622 (1300 NSW MCC).

Safe riding,

Emailed on behalf of the Motorcycle Council of NSW.
